Report: iPad Rivals Have Better Shot in Europe than US

Could Europe be the beachhead for Apple's tablet rivals to launch an offensive against the might iPad? That's the advice of Forrester Research, which published a new report Tuesday saying that tablet makers like Samsung, Hewlett-Packard, Acer, Motorola, and Research In Motion have a chance to take on Apple more easily in European markets than in the United States.

But it won't come easily, according to Forrester researcher Sarah Rotman Epps, the author of the report.

Apple may have less of a retail foothold in Europe than in the U.S., opening the field to competitive tablet makers there, but "prices for iPad competitors remain too high, and no player has assembled an ecosystem of content and applications that rival Apple's," Epps writes.
